legalise it (internationally)

howdy y'all

cowboy eva and cowboy shreya reporting,

today we're exploring international law:

first we're going to explore how an international treaty has contributed to the provision of human rights in australia, specifically

convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (CERD)

this treaty has contributed by providing a crucial framework for legal and policy development concerning racial equality in australia. specifically with the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (RDA), which was enacted to implement because australia has responsibility under the convention.

the UN has created many courts for international issues, but the big guns are...

ICJ(onathon Bailey):

the MAIN court, and its just a civil court that hears cases relating to disturbances of peace, harmony and all that + breaches in treaties between countries
  1. deals w civil matters of members
  2. gives advisory OPINIONS 😹😹 on legal issues
they can only reach a decision if both parties agree (??? -- w gaza, why would israel admit they're committing war crime? how would this work?) and the decisions aren't enforceable AT ALL unless the country wants to actually take the advice -- in australia itself, its not binding in our courts, but we could consider the issue as more important.

example of ICJ is when they accused israel of genocide, but nothing was done about this and the war crimes they committed as its just an opinion...

ICC

...

anyways that is all for today,
shreya

p.s. sreya hates us okay bye
